Yesterday I submitted a proposal to the area TEA party leaders.  I asked about the possibility of working together to present a seminar entitled, "Faith of our Fathers."  The topic would center around the American War for Independence and the religious influences that prompted it.  The proposal was as follows:

The talk would be limited to an hour and would cover two basic points.  First I would deal with some of the religious history that led up to the war, including the Reformation in Europe, the immigration of Protestants to America, and the influence of the Geneva Bible, the Great Awakening, and the famed New England Primmer.

The second half of the speech would address some of the particular religious beliefs which led the colonists to stand up against the tyranny of England.

I told them that I was not looking to receive any pay for it, but that I would gladly speak for free.  I merely would like to opportunity to encourage people to think about the heritage and doctrines that shaped our nation.

I would ask for your prayers in this regard as it would be a great opportunity to reach a wider body of people.

I've had wonderful feedback from this last semester's homeschool courses, from kids and parents alike.  Thanks a bunch!

I have been asked by a number of people as of late to do some classes this spring.  I'm checking to see if there is any further interest.  If there is a goodly number, I might be able to make a go of it.   The classes would be for anyone 6th-12th grades.  Price would be about $100 / course (which works out to about $10 a class as there are between 10-12 classes per course).  We'd meet once a week for about an hour per class from March to May.

The classes offered include the following:  Creative Writing , Public Speaking , Basic Bible Doctrine , and class I'll call a Worldviews class, as it is based on my Art  and How to Watch a Movie  courses.  The links will take you to a fuller description of the courses. Please contact me for more information if you need it.  If you are interested, please let me know how many children and how old.

Friends, I've been asked if I was going to offer any classes next semester.  If there is enough interest, I might be able to swing it.  Here is my list from which to choose:

Public Speaking (details here)

Creative Writing
(details here)

Composition
—In this class we will work through the basic components of research and composition.  The students will begin by writing a simple book report.  Then they will do a beginner level research paper (3-5 pages) on a historical figure.  The class will end with a major research paper (10 pages) on a contemporary issue.

Journalism
--  Students will learn the basics components of writing for newspapers and blogs.  They will then be required to do basic journalistic research, conduct interviews and then write articles.

Basic Doctrine
 (Sr. High)

Basic Doctrine
(Jr. High):  Students will study some of the elementary principles of the faith through the Westminster Shorter Catechism (check out the textbook we’ll use here).  They will be required to study and memorize the Westminster Shorter Catechism, as well as committing to memory the verses that accompany it.

Christian ethics:  Details yet to be determined.

I am also open to suggestions.  If you have a class you would like to see taught, let me know!

Each class would be 10-12 weeks in length and cost $65 per student or $110 for multiple children
